My name is Julie Ashton-Gray and I am honored to be the principal of McKinley Elementary for the last 8 years. Prior to coming to McKinley, I served as the vice principal of Kroc Middle School, and taught at Freese Elementary and Bell Junior High. At Bell, I was the resource specialist for students in grades 7 through 9. I attended Dominican University in San Rafael and received by BA in Sociology and my masters in special education. I am originally from Salinas, California, and moved to San Diego with my best friend from high school for my teaching job at Bell. There I met my husband. We just celebrated our 28th anniversary. Bill retired this year after a 32 year career. His most recent teaching experience was teaching architectural drawing and computer applications at Morse High School. Both my mother and sister were teachers so teaching has always been in my blood and heart. I am blessed with three sons who are now 24, 22, and 19. We live in Jamul where I love spending my free time gardening, reading, jogging, walking, and relaxing with my family and friends. My newest passion to keep in shape is talking spinning classes at 24 Hour Fitness. As a family, we have traveled extensively throughout the United States in a motor home and have visited 49 of the 50 states. Our family loves adventure and backpacking. My husband and I are looking forward to planning trips outside the United States to broaden our experiences and diversify our adventures.
