In 2010, McKinley set up a new computer lab which now includes 36 computers, enough for each student to have their own computer during their class time in the lab.

Starting in 2010, a small group of McKinley 4th and 5th graders have taken on the task of maintaining the computers in McKinley’s new computer lab. The McKinley Data Squad, the name the students chose to call themselves, learn all aspects of computers and computer maintenance.
On a weekly basis, they perform routine software maintenance. They have also installed some computers’ operating systems and setup specific protocols that determine how the computers work.
For the 2010/2011 school year, the Data Squad members are (from left to right): Susan Millan, Elina Shankar, Ivan Larios Gallardo and Jordan Cunningham (not pictured).
In Spring 2011, they installed new Random Access Memory chips (or RAM) on all the computers in the lab that will help them run quicker and more smoothly. Next they will begin to erase all the hard drives and install all new software on each of the computers. The McKinley community should be proud of all the work that these students do.
