Music Program

-1As a result of parental and community financial support, we’ve been fortunate to have established a wonderful music program at McKinley.  In three short years we’ve increased the music program from funding a part-time music teacher on a “funding available basis” to hiring a permanent half-time music teacher who provides weekly 30-50 minute instruction to each of our 375 + in our kindergarten through 4th grade classrooms (5th graders receive instrumental music instruction through the school districts visual and performing arts program (VAPA)).

Our music program not only introduces students to musical expression and appreciation but exposes our children to music from around the world, providing a wonderful complement to McKinley’s International Baccalaureate (IB) Program.  A key component of the IB program is learning about different cultures and identifying and celebrating the differences between and similarities among the various peoples that populate our earth.  Music is the universal language shared by all cultures that every child can experience and appreciate.

Each year, there is a Winter and Spring concert, generally held in December and June.
