Hello McKinley Families! Our Spring Gala is coming up on April 29th, and we are partnering up with Urban Discovery Academy to exchange volunteers. This means that we will provide about 7-10 people for their event, and they in turn would do the same for our event. This helps insure that all our parents will be having a good time and will be bidding on items instead of running the event.
UDA’s Gala is this Saturday, March 18th from 5:30 to 10. We need about 6 people to help us out this weekend. You would in essence be helping out our Gala by helping this weekend. Please contact Maurice if you are interested in helping.

In Yoga Rascals’ playful yoga classes children go on an imaginary yoga adventure while learning a variety of yoga poses, as well as breathing and relaxation techniques. Practicing yoga regularly increases flexibility and strength, improves balance and coordination, develops focus and concentration, and promotes a positive self-image. Yoga Rascals’ classes aim at reducing stress, developing kindness, and nurturing a peaceful mindset – all while having lots of fun. Check out this flyer for more information.
During our weeklong SPRING camps, youth get to flex their “technology” muscles through creating an original movie from start to finish.
Campers will learn how to operate a camera, edit in Final Cut Pro, create storyboards and use our Green Screen Studio! A matinee of the youth’s film projects will be premiered on the last day of camp to a full house in our independent movie theater, the Digital Gym CINEMA!

North Park AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) has announced that they will be fielding several Matrix teams from our region for the first time beginning with the 2017 season — and tryouts start this weekend! Matrix teams are competitive soccer teams that play against other competitive club teams. However, because the teams fall under the umbrella of AYSO, Matrix teams are generally substantially less expensive than other club teams — while offering kids the chance to play competitive soccer with other kids from their local community. The Program maintains the AYSO Core values that include: Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship, and Player Development. More information, click here or see the matrix_tryouts_flyer.
The rain has been a setback, but on the up side, the soil has been “flushed” and should better support the subsequent sod installation. (For the record, there are technical terms for “flushed”, but I’m at a loss for what they are at this moment, so I’m sticking with layman’s language.)
This week our district support team met with City in effort to correct all irrigation issues for the field. Once we have 10 days of clear weather, the balance of scope -grass field, ramps, playground and surrounding areas will move forward.
We’ve been told our field will be ready by the end of April and the city will release the field for daily use shortly after that.
We’ll keep our school community updated with regular posts. We’re on the home stretch folks!

In the spirit of the holidays, the Kindergarten classes have embarked on a community service project.
Last week, we discussed several different causes we could potentially support (e.g., hungry children, sick children, etc.), and then we voted to support animals in need. The specific shelter we will be supporting is the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe. Helen Woodward is a wonderful local shelter that relies heavily on volunteers and donations.
Click here to donate or bring any of the following items to ROOM 5 by 12/16: newspaper, puppy pads, unopened dog/cat food (wet or dry), plastic crates, blankets, grocery bags (paper or reusable), toner, printers, camera equipment, ladders, and spare coins.
We also created posters to spread the word of our project. They are posted around the campus…take a look.
Thank you for supporting Kinder’s Cause!

This week features the import and placement of the topsoil for the field and of the decomposed granite areas, including the running path around the perimeter of the field. In addition, the new concrete walk on the southwest corner of the site has been completed, and the subcontractor is currently working on installation of the perimeter 10’ fence.
Placement of asphalt concrete paving in the play court area is scheduled to begin next week, along with concrete formwork for the ramp off Palm Street.
The construction crew, led by our very own Mike Pittman, will also be finishing up the ornamental fence, gate details, landscaping, and irrigation between Buildings 100/200.
