Turn in Your Box Tops by June 14

Please turn in your Box Tops before the last day of school! Anything you collect over the summer can be submitted in September.  Look for the pink Box Tops on hundreds of products, then clip them and send them to school. Look for the collection containers in the hallway of the front office and at the PrimeTime check-in/out desk.

So far this school year we have raised $283.80! The money earned is contributed toward our Spanish, ceramics, dance, CRAVE art and garden programs as well as buses for field trips and extra classroom supplies. For more information on Box Tops, go to BTFE.com or see flyer.


Principal for a Day Raffle Tickets

One lucky student will be Principal for a Day!

Raffle tickets will be sold 5/30 – 6/2 (Tuesday – Friday) before and after school by the yoga statue.  

The drawing will be held on Monday, 6/5. The new principal will be ruling the school on Thursday, 6/8 and will enjoy the following:

  • Be addressed as “Principal” by all staff and students
  • Shadow the Principal
  • Eat lunch with the Principal, teachers, and staff
  • Broadcast any announcements
  • Visit classrooms, read to the younger grades (depending on age of the winner)
  • Make one rule for the day (within reason and subject to the real Principal’s approval)

5th Grade Action Week, 5/8 – 5/12

Support the 5th grade during Action Week as they make a difference in their community. Boxes will be placed throughout the school to accept donations for nonprofit organizations such as Make a Wish, PAWS, Goodwill, Blood Bank, Project Wildlife and many more.

The 5th graders will be selling drinks, food and treats on May 11th, Thursday so please bring your donations!


Jog-a-thon Update, Pizza Party & More…


The pizza party with the principal is on Thursday, April 20th. Invites have been sent home with students that earned $85+ for Jog-a-thon. (Teachers also have a list of qualifying students.)

Jog-a-thon Awards/Raffle is scheduled for Monday, April 24th, at the morning assembly. Trophies and other awards will be presented as well as raffle prizes.

Final stats are being tabulated and will be published soon on the Jog-a-thon event page.

Are you ready to boogie?! Spring Gala is less than 30 days away! Get your tickets now! You can also purchase tickets at school starting this week on Tuesday. Early bird purchase is $35/person. Price will increase to $40/person starting 4/16 and tickets at the door will be $45/person. So get them early!

Jog-A-Thon Money Due Friday, 3/24

This Friday, March 24th, is the last day to get your pledged Jogathon money in. It’s also the last day we will count money toward prizes and raffle tickets. Please bring your pledge money in by Friday!


Gala Volunteer Exchange

Hello McKinley Families! Our Spring Gala is coming up on April 29th, and we are partnering up with Urban Discovery Academy to exchange volunteers. This means that we will provide about 7-10 people for their event, and they in turn would do the same for our event. This helps insure that all our parents will be having a good time and will be bidding on items instead of running the event.

UDA’s Gala is this Saturday, March 18th from 5:30 to 10. We need about 6 people to help us out this weekend. You would in essence be helping out our Gala by helping this weekend. Please contact Maurice if you are interested in helping.

Spring 2017 Jog-a-thon

One of the Biggest (and Funnest) School Fundraising Events of the Year!

img_6367The McKinley Parent Teacher Club’s JOG-A-THON is one of our school’s biggest fundraisers and your support is vital. Most importantly, this is the only event where the kids take the lead in raising money for their school. Please visit the Jog-a-thon page to learn more about how your child can participate and qualify for some cool prizes!

T-Shirts are now available! Volunteers will be selling t-shirts before and after school next week. (Check calendar for details.) You can also order your 2017 Jog-a-Thon T-Shirt online and have it delivered to your child’s classroom.

Volunteer for the McKinley Jog-A-Thon

Join the Jog-A-Thon Committee!

The McKinley Jog-A-Thon has always been a GREAT fundraiser, raising over $50K last year!  The big three events (SONO, Jog-A-Thon, and Gala) pay for the majority of the arts, dance, gardening, and the teachers’ training to maintain the school’s IB accreditation.

Please email or private message Mauricio Ahumada, maurice68@cox.net if you would like to help (he is fluent in Spanish too). He is requesting 7+ volunteers. The actual day of the event, March 17th, many additional volunteers will help with setup, lap counting, water, fruit, etc…

(Planning meetings will *always* be held in a brewery or somewhere equally as fun!)


McKinley Dine-Out, Thursday, Feb. 16 at Dunedin

Mark your calendars – Thursday, February 16th is our monthly McKinley Dine-Out at Dunedin. Take a night off from cooking and support McKinley Elementary IB School. Dunedin will donate 25% of your order to McKinley on February 16th from 11 am to 11 pm. Come for lunch or dinner, and be sure to bring this flyer.

Valentine Grams for Sale 2/8 – 2/10

Send your child a Valentine Gram for just $1. Your child can also send grams to friends at school. Each gram is sent with a Tootsie Pop and will be delivered to classrooms on Valentine’s Day, 2/14.

Box Tops for Education

Last school year, we earned $490.30 for our school from Box Tops. All money earned is contributed toward our Spanish, ceramics, dance, CRAVE art and garden programs as well as buses for field trips and extra classroom supplies. This school year, our goal is to earn $1,000.00.

Come Hungry to Back to School Night

Back to School Night is Thursday, 9/29!
5:00pmOrganic and Sun & Sea food trucks will be in the front parking lot selling dinner options. Also, SnoCal Ice will be parked on Redwood St.

5:30pm – The 5th graders will be offering Root Beer Floats at the lunch tables (donations accepted) for their first fundraiser of the year.

  • Arrive at 6-7PM on the night of the event for a FREE extra Happy Hour drink ticket.
  • Leis are on sale! 1 /$3 or 2 / $5

Spring Gala Wine Rally at the Rose

Please join us for a Spring Gala Warm-Up/Wine Rally: Tuesday April 12 from 6-8 at The Rose in South Park. Appetizers and good cheer will be provided.

There’s only one catch: we ask that you help us by donating a bottle of wine valued at $12 or more. No time to shop ahead of the event? Please note that The Rose has wonderful selections for every palette and will have many available to purchase for donating that evening. Bottles collected will be offered for bidding on the night of the Spring Gala.

In addition, please bring any unused gift cards you don’t plan to use; we can put them to good use at the Gala. This year, we are also hoping to put together a “Book Lovers” basket for kids and adults. Please bring any gently used books to donate to our cause.

Moms and Dads are welcome, but this is a kids-free event.
