The McKinley Elementary “Octopus’s Garden” is a continual work-in-progress. Started in 2007, our garden has evolved into a beautiful serene setting, complete with murals appropriate to an “Octopus’s Garden”. Each grade has their own raised bed in order to plant a variety of flowers, fruits and vegetables. Thanks to all those who have donated both their time and materials to create a fun, vibrant learning setting.
The watercolor sunflower was done by Karen Kenyon, the mother of McKinley teacher Richard Kenyon. Both Richard and Karen were involved in establishing the garden at McKinley.
In May 2012, KPBS did a story on the garden and Alchemy cooking class for 4th and 5th graders:
McKinley thanks Ron and Ricardo at Alchemy!
In April 2011, USA Today did a feature on the McKinley Octopus Garden.
