Turn in Your Box Tops by June 14

Please turn in your Box Tops before the last day of school! Anything you collect over the summer can be submitted in September.  Look for the pink Box Tops on hundreds of products, then clip them and send them to school. Look for the collection containers in the hallway of the front office and at the PrimeTime check-in/out desk.

So far this school year we have raised $283.80! The money earned is contributed toward our Spanish, ceramics, dance, CRAVE art and garden programs as well as buses for field trips and extra classroom supplies. For more information on Box Tops, go to BTFE.com or see flyer.


Principal for a Day Raffle Tickets

One lucky student will be Principal for a Day!

Raffle tickets will be sold 5/30 – 6/2 (Tuesday – Friday) before and after school by the yoga statue.  

The drawing will be held on Monday, 6/5. The new principal will be ruling the school on Thursday, 6/8 and will enjoy the following:

  • Be addressed as “Principal” by all staff and students
  • Shadow the Principal
  • Eat lunch with the Principal, teachers, and staff
  • Broadcast any announcements
  • Visit classrooms, read to the younger grades (depending on age of the winner)
  • Make one rule for the day (within reason and subject to the real Principal’s approval)

Spring Open House – Updated Times (5/25)

We’re looking forward to seeing all of our McKinley families on Thursday (5/25) for Spring Open House!

4:30 – 7:00ish: Food trucks will be on campus. Choose from Organic, Sun & Sea, SnowCal Shaved Ice, and Lil’ Miss Shortcakes

4:30 – 6:30: Book Fair in library

5:30 – 7:00: 5th Grade Exhibition in auditorium

6:00 – 7:30: Classrooms open to see all of your students’ hard work

Your students have a lot to share and are excited you will be coming to Spring Open House!

 


McKinley Palm Street School Entrance

In an effort to mitigate some of the traffic on Felton Street, we are opening the gate on Palm Street each morning at 8:10. A staff member will be on duty and will direct children to the playground to line up. The gate will be closed just before 8:25am so the staff member can join his/her class.

This will be done on a trial basis. If access is used by families, we will continue using this entrance, if not, we will reevaluate.

Tuesday, 5/23 at 6:30pm – 4th and 5th grade Spring Concert in auditorium

Wednesday, 5/24 at 6:15pm – PTC Meeting in teacher’s lounge

Thursday, 5/25  – Food trucks outside the gates of the school before Spring Open House. Choose food from Organic, Sun & Sea, SnoCal Shaved Ice and Lil’ Miss Shortcakes

Thursday, 5/25 at 5:30 – Spring Open House, 5th Grade Exhibition (6:00 – 7:00pm) in auditorium, and Book Fair in library (4:30 – 6:30pm)

5/26 and 5/29, Friday and Monday – School CLOSED for Memorial Day weekend


Wear Your Pajamas for Read Across America – March 2, 2017

Thursday, March 2nd is National Read Across America Day to honor Dr. Seuss’ birthday. McKinley will be celebrating this Thursday by allowing students to come to school dressed in their pajamas (please no slippers, stuffed animals or toys). We will also have a designated 30 minute community reading time from 8:45-9:15 for students to go outside and read their favorite Dr. Seuss books. Parents are welcome to join their child for this reading time.

Dr. Seuss forever changed the way children’s books were written and he continues to inspire generations. Thank you so much and happy reading!


Registration for the 2017-2018 School Year

The McKinley registration window for new student enrollment will be open April 24 – May 19, 2017 for all grades. Office hours for enrollment are 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday – Friday (see enrollment guidelines and forms).

You will need the following documentation to register: proof of residence (utility bill, rental agreement, etc…), birth certificate, and immunization records.

In order to assure your child’s placement for the 2017 fall school year, please enroll during these dates.

Valentine Grams for Sale 2/8 – 2/10

Send your child a Valentine Gram for just $1. Your child can also send grams to friends at school. Each gram is sent with a Tootsie Pop and will be delivered to classrooms on Valentine’s Day, 2/14.

When: Purchase on 2/8, 2/9 and 2/10 before and after school
Where: Outside the school gates, at PrimeTime desk, (and confirming at Character Builders)
How much: $1 per gram


McKinley Dine-Out Night 11/17

November Dine-Out at Pete’s SeafoodThursday, 11/17 from 12pm-9pm.
McKinley will receive 20% of the total cost of your order. Pete’s will honor the flyer on your phone. In fact, he says just let them know you’re with McKinley! See you there!

Also that night, our friends at Roosevelt Middle School PTSA will be holding a fundraiser at Thorn Street Brewery, 5-8pm. Stop by and enjoy a brew on your walk home from Pete’s. This event benefits the mosaic mural project they are working toward.

Complete Federal Survey Cards

federal_survey_cardsYour help and support with securing federal funding for our school would be greatly appreciated.

Each year, our district receives over $8 million in Impact Aid funding. This is not automatic – we must apply for it each year. The U.S. Department of Education requires that a survey be conducted each year and our district then files a claim based on the cards received. This process precludes us from using enrollment cards for this purpose so completing the Federal Survey Cards is critical.

These will be sent home on Wednesday and we ask that they are completed by each and every family in our school community. Please return completed forms to us on or before Wednesday, October 12th. (One card per family)

Those classes that have 100% of their cards returned will win a popsicle party (with heartfelt gratitude from their very appreciative principal).
