Thursday, March 2nd is National Read Across America Day to honor Dr. Seuss’ birthday. McKinley will be celebrating this Thursday by allowing students to come to school dressed in their pajamas (please no slippers, stuffed animals or toys). We will also have a designated 30 minute community reading time from 8:45-9:15 for students to go outside and read their favorite Dr. Seuss books. Parents are welcome to join their child for this reading time.
Dr. Seuss forever changed the way children’s books were written and he continues to inspire generations. Thank you so much and happy reading!
The McKinley registration window for new student enrollment will be open March 13 – March 24, 2017 for all grades. Office hours for enrollment are 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday – Friday (see enrollment guidelines and forms).
You will need the following documentation to register: proof of residence (utility bill, rental agreement, etc…), birth certificate, and immunization records.
In order to assure your child’s placement for the 2017 fall school year, please enroll during these dates.

Our Jog-a-thon is scheduled for Friday morning, March 17th. Family Friday falls upon that same afternoon.
We’d love to encourage parent attendance at our annual Jog-a-thon and have opted to cancel our March 17th Family Friday.
Send your child a Valentine Gram for just $1. Your child can also send grams to friends at school. Each gram is sent with a Tootsie Pop and will be delivered to classrooms on Valentine’s Day, 2/14.
When: Purchase on 2/8, 2/9 and 2/10 before and after school
Where: Outside the school gates, at PrimeTime desk, (and confirming at Character Builders)
How much: $1 per gram
November Dine-Out at Pete’s Seafood – Thursday, 11/17 from 12pm-9pm.
McKinley will receive 20% of the total cost of your order. Pete’s will honor the flyer on your phone. In fact, he says just let them know you’re with McKinley! See you there!
Also that night, our friends at Roosevelt Middle School PTSA will be holding a fundraiser at Thorn Street Brewery, 5-8pm. Stop by and enjoy a brew on your walk home from Pete’s. This event benefits the mosaic mural project they are working toward.
Your help and support with securing federal funding for our school would be greatly appreciated.
Each year, our district receives over $8 million in Impact Aid funding. This is not automatic – we must apply for it each year. The U.S. Department of Education requires that a survey be conducted each year and our district then files a claim based on the cards received. This process precludes us from using enrollment cards for this purpose so completing the Federal Survey Cards is critical.
These will be sent home on Wednesday and we ask that they are completed by each and every family in our school community. Please return completed forms to us on or before Wednesday, October 12th. (One card per family)
Those classes that have 100% of their cards returned will win a popsicle party (with heartfelt gratitude from their very appreciative principal).
