It’s time for the 51st Annual McKinley Variety Show and we are looking for students,
teachers, and even parents to participate in the show. This year’s Variety Show will be on Friday, March 16th at the North Park Theater. We are really fortunate to have some of the staff from the Junior Theater helping us to put on this year’s production! Try outs will be after school on Wednesday, January 18th (before school by arrangement). For more information, download flyer.

Auditorium Facelift Work Party
Volunteers Needed – Nov. 11 and 12
McKinley received a grant of $4,800 from Lowe’s to fix up our auditorium and now we need McKinley volunteers to help with the project. We will be prepping the auditorium this Friday, Nov. 11 starting at 9am. Then on Saturday, Nov. 12, starting at 8am, we will be painting. We need your help! There are signup sheets and a list of materials needed in the auditorium and the front office. For more information, download Auditorium Facelift Work Party — Nov. 11 & 12.
Nov. 9 Meeting with School Board President Barrera
On November 9 at 6pm, School Board President Richard Barrera will be at McKinley to discuss the latest information about the district. All parents are encouraged to attend so they can learn about upcoming changes to the San Diego Unified School District. Childcare will be provided in the auditorium.
Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive
November 1-18
Goal: 20 McKinley Family Thanksgiving Dinners
*United Methodist Church is donating 10 meals
Drop off these items near the office:
*cranberry sauce
*cans of corn or green beans
*box of instant potatoes or sm. bag of potatoes
*cans of sweet potatoes/yams
*package of dinner rolls
*cans of fruit
*box of cake mix and frosting
*box of stuffing
*Cash or check donations clearly marked for drive
**Bring directly to front office. These will buy turkeys.

School Supply Wish Lists
As state and local budgets are slashed, schools are being cut to the quick. When parents and community members can donate school supplies, this frees up budget dollars for the core purpose of our neighborhood schools — Educating our children. In short, any supplies you can donate to the following grade classes are greatly appreciated.
Each student should start the year off with the following suggested items.
• Pencil box (no bigger than 8×5 please)
• 3 packs of thick, beginner size, pencils
• 3 Pink Pearl erasers (large) and 1 package of pencil top erasers
• 1 plastic 2 pocket folder (please only send 1 to class)
• 1 box of 10 Crayola type markers
• 1 box of crayons
• Colored pencils
• 1 highlighter
• Scissors
• 6 glue sticks
We would also appreciate any donations of Kleenex, paper towels, Ziplock Bags (sandwich or gallon size), disinfectant wipes, Bic Flair black felt tip pens and packs of scrapbooking paper. Please remember that these are all suggestions. If you cannot provide any of these items, they will be supplied for your child.

Important Dates for New School Year
Here are a few dates you will want to keep in mind as this school year quickly approaches:
September:
2nd – Kindergarten and New Student Orientation, 9:00 am in the Auditorium. Come and learn more about the upcoming school year including our schedule and what to expect the first day. You will also have an opportunity to learn more about our PTC and hear how you can get involved.
3rd – Class Rosters Posted at 6:00pm. These will be posted by the front door of the school, please remember these may change slightly the first few weeks of school based upon enrollment.
6th – First Day of School. Classes begin promptly at 9:10, please be at school no later than 9:00 to line up.
